A new participation record

The 33rd Violin Competition “Città di Vittorio Veneto” Prosecco DOC International Prize has set a new participation record, growing from an average of 30 entries before 2021, to 57 competitors admitted to the qualifying rounds of this edition, out of a total of 68 requests sent: a notable increase due to the consolidation of the Competition prestige and also to the new terms in opening to European musicians from all over the Union.

Among the 57 admitted candidates, slightly more than half are Italian (35). Musicians from other European countries are divided as follows: Germany (5); Poland (3); Austria, France, Romania and Spain (2 each); Belgium, Estonia, Latvia, Portugal, Slovenia and Sweden (1 each). The composition of the participants is balanced in terms of gender, with 29 male and 28 female participants. Among the competitors, both young emerging talents and experienced musicians stand out, ranging in age from 17 to 28 years old.

These numbers were underlined during the press conference for the presentation of the 33rd Competition, held on Tuesday 8th August in the civic hall of the Museo della Battaglia, attended by the Mayor of Vittorio Veneto Antonio MIATTO, the Councilor for Culture Antonella ULIANA, the official illustrator of the image for the 33rd edition Riccardo GUASCO, the artistic director Francesco DE ANGELIS, the representative for the Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco DOC Tanja BARATTIN and the jury secretary Stefano DA ROS. Here are their statements.

Antonio MIATTO, Mayor of Vittorio Veneto
I’d like to express great satisfaction for the European revival of the Competition, which is proving to be a successful choice. After the difficulties of Covid, this edition is opening with a turnout of many young musicians. I’d like to thank the organization, led by my councilor Uliana with the artistic director Francesco De Angelis. We hope that it will be an edition able of conveying interest in those who want to visit us and enjoy our territory and its excellence.

Antonella ULIANA, Councilor for Culture of Vittorio Veneto
There are 12 European countries represented in the Competition in addition to Italy and the competitors are almost double the figures we were used to. I am also pleased to underline an almost gender equality between female and male violinists. The work on the Competition is demanding and it starts the day after the closure of the previous edition: I’d like to thank all the people involved and above all the municipal offices, for having the constant, continuous and passionate work; without it, results like these would not be achieved. We wish all the participants in the Competition to make the most of their possibilities and to see their commitment recognized. We truly await them with joy in the City of Music.

Riccardo GUASCO, official illustrator of 33rd Edition
I am delighted and honored to be chosen to create the illustration for this edition. Due to its European and young nature, I wanted to give it a fresh style, taking from the futuristic style the suggestions of a dynamic, soft, spiral composition that make up a symphony of color lines.

Francesco DE ANGELIS, artistic director of Violin Competition “Città di Vittorio Veneto” Prosecco DOC International Prize
If a clear majority of Italian students pleases me, as the original objective of this competition is to give Italian students the possibility of growing, I have to say that the European formula   balances everything and helps to solidify the reputation of the Competition. I’d like to thank all the people involved and above all the jury components who have agreed to accompany me in this edition: a jury that comes from all over Europe and will head the president Enrico Schiavi: a special thanks to him together with Maestro David Coleman, who will conduct in the Final Concert the orchestra formed by the “Archi della Scala” and musicians of the RAI Orchestra.

Tanja BARATTIN, Consorzio di Tutela Prosecco DOC
Consortium renews its support for this edition of the Competition with great pleasure: since our foundation in 2009 we have supported sport and culture, in all its aspects, not least of which is music. The Competition European value and the opening to the young people are in full harmony with our values and our nature: we are a representative of the territory which looks to the international scenario, to forge relationships and contact with. For the next editions of the Competition we could think of opening up to local realities by taking this event out of the canonical places of music... Perhaps a "Violin Competition Off" that can be a stimulus for the territory, as are the initiatives that the Consorzio di Tutela del Prosecco DOC claims. Why not? We will be at your side.

Stefano DA ROS, Segretario di Giuria del Concorso di Violino Città di Vittorio Veneto Premio Internazionale Prosecco DOC
I am honored to support Maestro De Angelis in the organization: his passion for leading this event starts from the direct participation as a student and it has been maintained over the years. The enthusiasm we put into the organization goes along with the students commitment: I am hearing them on the phone these days and all those who have confirmed their presence are at work knowing this is an excellent opportunity to shine. All reveal the high profile of the Competition: an outstanding jury, the awards and last but not least the cultural and musical value of it. Even national institutions, such as La Scala in Milan which will honor us with the winds of its orchestra accompanied by musicians from the RAI orchestra, have recognized Vittorio Veneto as a high quality reference reality for the violin.

The programme, which can also be enjoyed live online on Facebook and Youtube, is available on the official website of the Competition www.violinovittorioveneto.it To participate in the Final Concert, reservations and pre-sales are available at the IAT Vittorio Veneto, on weekdays and at Saturday 9.30-12.30, 15 - 18 and on Sunday morning 9.30-12.30.
