A cultural event that has more than half a century of history behind it is now returned to the public of music lovers after a few years' break. This is the prestigious "Città di Vittorio Veneto" violin competition which now becomes the "International Prosecco Doc Award" and opens to the participation of young violinists from abroad.
The competition – born in 1962 from an idea of the Maestro Mauro Benvenuti – will return as one of the major events on the Italian music scene. It will be staged from 1 to 6 December 2020 and will see participants compete in a demanding artistic program. The "Città di Vittorio Veneto" Violin Competition enjoys important partnerships and patronages such as that of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Consorzio di Tutela della Denominazione di Origine Controllata Prosecco, thanks to which it has acquired an international dimension.
The 2020 edition was presented to the press on July 7th, in the splendid frescoed setting of the Civic Room of the Museo della Battaglia. The artistic director is Maestro Francesco De Angelis, violin soloist and Konzertmeister of the Teatro alla Scala and of the Filarmonica della Scala who, in his youth, had imposed himself on Vittorio Veneto in the 1993 edition of the competition.
After the Covid emergency, culture and music resume their path: «As Mayor of Vittorio Veneto – declared the first citizen Antonio Miatto – I am happy to express my personal and Administration's satisfaction, together with all the citizens, for the rebirth of a competition that has a great history and which characterizes our city in this phase of return to a normal life and to the normality of culture, expressed in all its forms".
«I am really happy – added the Councilor for Culture Antonella Uliana – that this event will resume, after a stop of a few years, with an incredible charge and enthusiasm. The "Città di Vittorio Veneto" Violin Competition is part of the history and DNA of all of us citizen of Vittorio Veneto and now it will finally also have a European dimension, underlined by the logo we have chosen and which – very significantly – incorporates the stars of the Union flag to crown two doves symbol of peace and brotherhood».
The great enthusiasm surrounding this new cultural challenge has also infected the Artistic Director Francesco De Angelis who expressed the great «pride of being an active part of the rebirth and promotion of an event that already has an important and consolidated history over the years. I will do everything – continued Maestro De Angelis – to further enhance the competition». Finally, the new artistic director praised «the sensitivity of the City Administration that has awakened around the competition, which is a good sign for the future».
The main sponsor of the event is the Consorzio di Tutela della Denominazione di Origine Controllata Prosecco with its president Stefano Zanette, «particularly proud to have contributed to the restart of an event that, from this year, will also have an international character as international has become Prosecco. The Consortium - concluded Zanette - wanted to devote particular attention to culture with the aim of supporting and promoting our territory and its activities».
