The Vittorio Veneto Violin Competition is about to return. 47 confirmed participants, 13 European countries represented

Seven years after the last edition, the Vittorio Veneto Violin Competition returns in a renewed guise and becomes international.

it will be entitled "City of Vittorio Veneto Violin Competition Prosecco DOC International Prize" and there will be 47 registered participants in the preliminary rounds that will take place in the city from 27 September at the “Lorenzo Da Ponte” Theater.

With an average age of 23 (the two youngest musicians are Italian, and they are seventeen), the competing musicians come from 13 European Union countries (Italy, Austria, Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Estonia and Latvia) and will compete with the required repertoire, accompanied by the official pianists and evaluated by the jury of the competition, a prestigious group of five artists of international level, chaired by Ernesto Schiavi, the Artistic director of the Rai National Symphony Orchestra.

The Mayor of Vittorio Veneto Antonio Miatto underlines: «We are ready to kick off the 32nd edition. A real cultural relaunch with an international dimension of an event which was born in 1962 and has over time welcomed generations of young violinists to Vittorio Veneto, many of whom have started a brilliant concert career thanks to the Vittorio Veneto Competition».

Moreover, the artistic director of the Competition, Francesco De Angelis, took the first steps of his career in Vittorio Veneto, by winning the competition in 1993. A successful artistic path that led him to become a solo violin and Konzertmeister of the Teatro alla Scala and of the Filarmonica della Scala in Milan. About the competition he says: «I made the decision to open the doors of the competition to the people of the European Union, at a time when none of us could have imagined the pandemic and the resulting suspension of any artistic event. To this moment, in the light of the events, I am more than ever certain that this choice was fundamental for the young participants in the violin competition, as it offers them the opportunity to meet musicians from all over Europe, who bring their own instrumental and cultural background, at a time when the desire to return to making music is great.

Violinists today must open their musical horizons in order to be competitive in the profession and in Vittorio Veneto they will find the ideal environment to fulfill their  aspirations».

The Violin Competition City of Vittorio Veneto Prosecco DOC International Award will take place at the Lorenzo Da Ponte Theater from Monday 27 September to Saturday 2 October 2021, the day dedicated to the final with the presence of the Orchestra of the Accademia della Scala of Milan. On Sunday 26 September at 8.30 pm, there will also be an inaugural concert with an exceptional trio composed by the artistic director Francesco De Angelis on the violin, Monica Cattarossi on the piano and Enrico Dindo on the cello.
